In an effort to help UOC Medical student's learn more about the neighborhoods that much of their patient population is coming from, the University of Chicago Prizker School of Medicine students have signed up for an Explorers Program founded by south side community leader Jahmal Cole.
Cole currently undertakes this mission through the "My Block, My Hood, My City" explorers program, which takes groups of underprivileged teenagers on one day explorations through the different areas of the City of Chicago.
The mission of the M3 program is not tourism, but rather to facilitate meaningful cultural exchanges between different people. Cole wants to make sure that the UOC Medical Students get a real comprehensive sense of these communities and the people living there. Explorations include meetings with community organizations, business leaders, and supporting local hidden gem businesses.
This (3) month partnership begins in April and it consists of the Medical students visiting the Chatham, Englewood, and Woodlawn communities.
